Nature Walk

Moderate Tilden Ridge Walk
Saturday, April 1

Description: Great views to east (Mt Diablo and the central valley) and to the west (Berkeley, The Bay, SF, Golden Gate and beyond) cloud cover permitting.  Definite ups and downs for 1.5 miles, with a less demanding start on the Vollmer Peak Trail for those who want to return after an easier first mile.  Audre Newman will lead.

When: Saturday April 1, 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Where: Meet in the parking lot for the Seaview/East Bay Skyline National Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, at the Vollmer Peak entrance, south end of Tilden Park, near the Tilden Steam Train.

Bring: Layered clothing for variable weather, hiking boots or trail shoes; hiking poles if you use them on hikes. The trail is mostly on the ridge line so if it is hot and sunny be prepared for that too, with water, wind, and sun protection.

Directions: Drive to the intersection of Grizzly Peak Blvd and Lomas Cantadas Rd at the South end of Tilden Park. Turn at the sign for the Tilden Park Steam Trains. Do not park in the Steam Trains Lot, but bear right into the last parking lot at the trailhead for Seaview/East Bay Skyline National Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail. We will meet near the portable toilet at the south end of the parking lot.  GPS coordinates: Vollmer Peak entrance:  37.88135°N / 122.22220°W

Carpools: If you can provide a ride, especially from North Berkeley BART or Rockridge BART, or if you need a ride, please give your phone number and address to Audre Newman (audrenew@gmail.com)  three days in advance.

Weather: Real rain cancels. In case of drizzly or iffy weather bring umbrella and rain jacket.

Contact: To sign up, please respond to the forum, register on the Ashby Village Calendar or write to Audre Newman (audrenew@gmail.com).  For questions, Call Audre at 510-548-0530, or on the day of the hike at 510-990-2130, but don’t be surprised if you can’t get through due to poor cell phone coverage on the trail.
