NIMITZ TRAIL, INSPIRATION POINT-TILDEN PARK
Description: This is a great walk for possible wet weather, and an even better one if the sun is out and we get gorgeous views of the Bay as well as points East. At 2 miles, we reach Wildcat Peak 200 ft above our starting point, but there are a few ups and downs in-between. Turn-arounds are possible at any point, and you still get the views.
Nimitz Trail is a relatively level walk on a paved fire road along the Tilden Park ridgeline. It offers views of both San Francisco Bay and inland valleys, both quite beautiful.
Where to meet: We will meet at Inspiration Point in Tilden Regional Park on Wildcat Canyon Rd.
What to bring: Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea.
Directions: From North Berkeley take Spruce St to top; cross the intersection with Grizzly Peak Blvd and go directly across to Wildcat Canyon Road. Follow this road about 3 winding miles to Inspiration Point. Parking is available.
*Limit group size to 6 (including leader). First 5 members to register with the coordinator before Jan 3 will walk together. Additional walkers will be added if we have enough leaders to create a second group of 5.
*Masks are to be worn at all times.
*Social distance of 6ft will be maintained throughout the walk
*Hand sanitizer will be used at the beginning and end of the walk in lieu of hand washing.
Rain or AQI (Air Quality Index) above 50 cancels the walk. Predicted temperatures must be below 80ºF.
