Description: Entering a magnificent redwood forest after winding a short distance through meadows with picnic areas, the wide paved trail becomes packed dirt, but still wide and with little elevation gain. Here, along tiny Redwood Creek, arching bay trees, and lush ferns join the redwoods. There are several steeper and more challenging trails branching off from the Stream Trail which provide our moderate challenges. Those not so inclined can stay on the Stream Trail and return by the same route. Walk leaders will be available to accompany walkers on the various trails. One restroom is available along the Stream trail in the Canyon Meadow. Where to meet: We will meet in Redwood Regional Park at the “Redwood Gate,” 7867 Redwood Rd, Oakland, CA. This "GATE" is located off the north side of Redwood Road about 2.25 miles east of Skyline Blvd. Turn Left into the park here, and follow the entry road past the kiosk to the LAST parking area, the parking space for the Canyon Meadow Staging Area. What to bring: Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea for the longer option. Directions: Take Hwy 13 south to the Redwood Road Exit. Turn left off the exit, and follow Redwood Road east, 2.25 miles past Skyline drive. Turn left into the “Redwood Gate.” The last parking area at the end of this access road is at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area. We will meet there. If you need a ride, contact the office or ask a friend to bring you and be your guest.
