The Events Team Presents:
Friday Afternoon at the Movies
Monthly Film Discussion Series

A Feature Film
Discussion of
Woman in Gold
(1 hour, 49 mins, 2015,
available for rent on Amazon Prime Video)

Please join us for our film discussion on August 19th of the film, Woman in Gold. You will need to see the film first on your own and then we will all get together via Zoom to discuss our reactions. Similar to a book club, our monthly discussions are dynamic, as we share our opinions and insights.

About the film: Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds star in the remarkable true story of one woman’s battle against the establishment to recover her family’s art treasures seized by Nazis in World War II. She takes on the Austrian government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family.

The film is based on the true story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee living in Los Angeles, who, together with her young lawyer fought the government of Austria for almost a decade to reclaim Gustav Klimt's iconic painting of her aunt  Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which was completed between 1903 and 1907.

As one reviewer from Rotten Tomatoes says, “Helen Mirren is magnificent as the persistent and persuasive woman who refused to give up on justice. A must see.”
