Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

Hosted by Audre & Roger Newman, Middle Harbor Shoreline Park is practically in the middle of
San Francisco Bay just south of the Bay Bridge!

With 2 miles of mostly paved flat trails, it is a great place for learning about the local history, natural environment, and maritime activities: it is is built on the site of the former Oakland Naval Supply Depot, an important supply center for the Navy's Pacific Fleet from World War II until 1998;  it is an ecological reserve of shallow bay and natural shoreline habitats for many species, such as Dungeness crab, flatfish, anchovy, herring and perch( and many birds that eat them!); and it is located in the heart of Oakland's container seaport. Visitors can see the direct loading and unloading of a ship, and observe the different pieces of equipment it takes to move cargo.  The views of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge are stunning!

To reach the park from the East Bay:
From the West Oakland Bart Station, head east on 7th St. Immediately turn right on Mandela Parkway, which curves into 3rd St.  Turn right onto Adeline/Embarcadero/Middle Harbor Road.  Continue on Middle Harbor Road to the park entrance on the right.  The distance is about 3 miles. Upon entering the park, turn immediately left and drive to the parking lot at the end at the Port Operations Viewing Area.
