The Social Hour Team Presents:
Friday Afternoon at the Movies
Monthly Film Series
A Feature Film Discussion of... Philomena,
a film starring Judi Dench
(1 hours, 38 mins., USA, 2013,
available on Netflix or for rent from Amazon for $3.99)
Join us for what promises to be a lively discussion of this very special and moving drama.
Plan to see “Philomena” on your own or with a friend on Netflix or Amazon before our discussion group meets. At our Zoom get-together, we will then discuss what we thought about the film, i.e., the themes, characters, what we liked (or not), what it made us think about, etc.
About the film:
A visually beautiful and moving film, "Philomena" is based on a true story about an Irish retired nurse who teams up with a world-weary political journalist. Together they go to America to search for the toddler son she was forced to give up for adoption 50 years ago, when she was an unwed teenager living in a convent. Judi Dench shines in this story of her quest to find her long-lost son, and Steve Coogan is superb as the reluctant journalist who finds his way on their journey together.

Please remember to view the film on your own ahead of time and we will then discuss it together on January 7.
