Where: Cedar Rose Park 1300 Rose St. We will walk to Strawberry Creek Park 1260 Allston Way, and back. 1/2 mile each way
Open to: Everyone is welcome. If you aren't a member or volunteer, we'd love to tell you about Ashby Village.
Accessibility: Good for Hikers with Walkers, we recommend you have someone accompany you that will match your walk pace, bring a friend.
Description and Directions: Back by popular demand. Park to park walks were started and led by Shirley Jowell, our beloved AV member and hike leader several years ago. This one was especially popular!
This walk is good for those who may have mobility challenges, as it is flat and paved. We will meet at Cedar Rose Park, on the Cedar side, where there are benches and a small bathroom. We will walk about a half mile, at our varying paces, on the old Santa Fe railroad track trail to Strawberry Creek Park on Allston, where we will meet again, explore, and enjoy an optional bite to eat. The art cafe - Hidden Cafe - has coffee and bakery items we can purchase, Phoenix Pastificio, next door, has pasta items to take home. There are benches and bathrooms at the Park. Then we will walk the half mile back.
Note: You can read more about the Santa Fe Right of Ways through Berkeley here
What to bring: Good walking shoes, layered clothing for variable weather, water. Some might enjoy using hiking poles for a good work out! Bring money for cafe or pasta purchases!
Transit: The 52 bus goes to Cedar Rose Park. Or, Contact the AV office for a volunteer ride or bring a friend who can drive you and join us.
