Nature Walk: Lower Strawberry Canyon Trail
Description: The wide, even trail follows Strawberry Creek for a short distance, and then winds up an easy slope through beautiful arching live oaks and bay trees. The underbrush is just beginning to leaf out, dotted occasionally by flowering current bushes. We walk up for 0.9 mile, elevation gain 200 ft, then back down. We might get a peek at the bay from the 0.9 point.
Where to meet: We will meet in the parking lot just beyond the Strawberry Canyon Recreation Center on Centennial Road, east of the CAL Stadium. There are NO bathroom facilities there, but there are port-a-potties at the Rec Center lot.
What to bring: Good walking shoes, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea.
How to get there: From University Ave at Oxford, turn left onto Oxford and proceed to Hearst, turn Right. Go up Hearst and turn Right on Galey Road. Turn Left at Stadium Rim Road. At the top of the hill, turn left onto Centennial Road. Pass the Strawberry Canyon Rec Center and about 50 yds up the hill, pull into the dirt parking lot on the right.
Carpools: If you need a ride or can give a ride, please "respond to all" on the reminder emal and give your location and contact info for a ride from your home or a convenient BART station.
