Stumbling Stone: Writing and Publishing a Novel Based on Real Life
Ashby Village members and authors Rudi Raab and Julie Freestone will discuss the 25-year journey that led to the publication of their novel Stumbling Stone. They’ll explain how they managed to write a book together and why they decided to make it a fiction book, even though the novel is based on their real-life stories. They'll also describe what led them to self-publishing, what tools worked for them and why they created a website. They'll outline what they learned and provide tips for others struggling to launch their own works.
Julie Freestone and Rudi Raab are Ashby Village members and Julie is an Ashby Village volunteer and Board member. They are long time (31 years) Richmond residents who published a book called Stumbling Stone - a novel based on their true life stories. They worked on the book for more than two decades and learned a lot during their journey. Rudi is a retired Berkeley police officer and Julie was a reporter for a number of local newspapers, including the Berkeley Voice and the Montclarion.
