Tour of Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland
Designed by noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (whose other credits include New York's Central Park), Mountain View Cemetery's acreage offers spectacular vistas of the San Francisco Bay's surrounding areas. The cemetery is an impressive repository of local and state history. We'll visit Julia Morgan, Ghirardelli, Chabot, Samuel Merritt, Henry Kaiser, among others important to Oakland's history.
To see the graves listed here, a fair amount of climbing is involved on paved paths to incredible views and remarkable graves.
Ruby Long, a member and volunteer at Ashby Village, has been a docent at the cemetery for a number of years and is leading the tour.
This tour is limited to 10 people. You need to sign up in advance.
We will meet in front of the administrative office of Mountain View Cemetery.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat, water and sunscreen.
