Class 9
Western Shore Irish Band

All Irish Music on the Eve of St. Patrick's Day

Western Shore Irish Band brings the dynamic music and song of Ireland, Scotland and other Celtic lands to life. Valerie Rose and long-time Bay Area collaborator Jason Pollack perform the irresistible Celtic dance tunes (jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes), and the alternately beautiful and bawdy songs of the Celtic tradition. It’s high-energy, fun, powerful acoustic music for all.

Valerie Rose is a fiddler and singer in the San Francisco Bay Area who presents tunes and songs from the great Irish / Celtic tradition. Hearkening back to the pioneers of the Celtic folk music revival such as Clannad and Altan, Valerie's arrangements of traditional tunes and songs are spiced with rich harmonies and playful interchanges between the musicians, both vocally and instrumentally. Audiences are captivated by the pure, haunting quality of her voice and the vibrant intensity of her fiddling. She magically brings to life the transcendent beauty of Celtic melodies and the joyous energy of the tradition's jigs and reels.

Jason Pollack is one of the leading players of Irish flute in the San Francisco Bay Area. His style is clean, crisp, powerful, similar to his role models Matt Molly from the Chieftains and Bothy Band, and progressive Irish musician Mike McGoldrick. Being classically trained and with a background in jazz as well as popular music, he brings those skills and sensibilities to Irish traditional music to create a distinctive voice within this age-old art form.
