Joe Lurie and International House

The Little Known, Groundbreaking History of
International House, the First Interracial,
Co-educational Living Center West of New York

The presentation will explore the institution's eye-opening, pioneering role in desegregating the campus and city of Berkeley communities, its courageous stand against the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII, and its ongoing tradition of smashing stereotypes and building transformational relationships across cultures.

This event includes a viewing of the PBS 30 minute documentary about International House Berkeley with host Sam Waterston as a precursor to Joe's presentation.

Joe Lurie is an Award-Winning Author; Cross-Cultural Communications Trainer; Executive Director Emeritus, International House at UC Berkeley; Former Peace Corps Volunteer. Joe Lurie's intercultural work has been featured on PBS, NPR, Harper's Magazine and at the Commonwealth Club and the World Affairs Council of Northern California.

Come for the fun and stay for Social Hour afterwards!
