Science and Ideas Group Presents
Cancer Immunotherapeutics:
The Hope, The Hype, and The Reality
Presenter: Irene Kuhn, PhD
Description of talk: Irene is a conceptual level cancer research scientist, focused on discovering more about the causes of cancerous transformation in order to find new, effective ways to fight cancer.
For this talk, she hopes to set the stage for discussion of cancer immunotherapeutics (a.k.a. cancer vaccines) by describing the general nature of solid tumor cancers that present clinically, before moving on to talking about why it has taken us so long to get to immunotherapeutics, and finally, to what little is currently known about the amazing dance between our immune systems and the cancers that develop in us.
Short biography: Virologist and Cancer Cell Biologist. PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. University of California, Davis. Career spanned academia, 23 years in BioTech Pharma, and 11 years at LBL.
