The Events Team and the Exploring Creativity Group Present:

A Conversation with Nancy Rubin

on the Documentary "Hi, I'm Nancy Rubin"

Look Who’s On TV! You’re invited into the classroom and behind the scenes in the making of this documentary about former Berkeley High teacher Nancy Rubin and her acclaimed “Time Capsule Project”. Some 15,000 students wrote a letter to their future self and over the decades Nancy mailed them all back. What was it like to get “a blast from the past?"

“Hi, I’m Nancy Rubin” is a documentary about our member and long-time volunteer photographer. Join Nancy to hear firsthand about this heartwarming and powerful story.

We suggest you watch this 40-minute documentary before the program. It is available to stream on MAX.

“Hi, I'm Nancy Rubin” follows the last three letters as they are mailed and delivered, opened and read for the first time. The film is an intimate journey of memory and transformation, as we hear former students discuss candidly what it was like to be a teen growing up in the 1980s and 90s, and how for many of them the experience of Ms. Rubin’s class was completely life changing. Ultimately, the film is a compelling firsthand exploration of the lasting effects of social emotional education and a deep look into what is possible when teachers allow young people to have safe, open forums to express themselves.”  (Jennifer Steinman Sternin, Director)
