Lily Iona MacKenzie:
Dreaming Myself into Old Age:
One Woman’s Search for Meaning
Lily looks forward to sharing highlights of her hybrid memoir, Dreaming Myself into Old Age: One Woman’s Search forMeaning, came into being. Aging offers its own mysteries for us to uncover, and wondering what they may be first drew her into writing Dreaming Myself into Old Age: One Woman’s Search for Meaning. While May Sarton and others have wonderfully illuminated their daily lives, Lily has taken a different direction. In our outer-oriented culture, with our focus on work, commuting, attending to our many social networks and apps, the inner life gets even less respect than old age and elders do. To Lily, our inner life and our relationship to it seems as important, if not more important, than our actions in the world. She explores the role that fantasies and dreams, memories and reveries, have played in helping to deepen herself. She also is not limited to night dreams. She views all the arts as avenues to a deeper and broader sense of self.
Bio: Lily Iona MacKenzie has published poetry, essays, and short stories in over 170 venues. She’s also published four novels (Fling!, Curva Peligrosa, Freefall: A Divine Comedy, and The Ripening: A CanadianGirl Grows Up, a sequel to Freefall) and two poetry collections: All This and California Dreaming. Shanti Arts Publishing released her hybrid memoir Dreaming Myself into Old Age: One Woman’s Search for Meaning on 9/19/23. She blogs at http://lilyionamackenzie.com and teaches creative writing at the University of San Francisco's Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning.
