When: Wednes. June 19 10:00 for about 2 hours
Where: Redwood Regional Park, West Ridge Trail, Skyline Gate, 8490 Skyline Blvd., Oakland
Open to: All
Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible
Description: This is an AV favorite, added by popular demand! The hike is easy to moderately challenging, depending on your speed and the trails selected. If we have enough walk leaders, we may be able to offer other trail options along the way. We will discuss the possibilities before we begin.
The West Ridge Trail is a wide dirt road which gently undulates through tall Monterey pines, redwoods, oaks and bay trees. There will be shade for a warm day. Beautiful panoramic views can be seen occasionally.
Where to meet: We will meet in the parking lot at Skyline Gate. Redwood Regional Park, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA. If it is full, you can park along the residential streets.
There is an accessible toilet.
What to bring: Good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable
weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but always a good
idea for help with balance.
How to get there:
Drive south on Hwy 13 (toward Hayward). Exit Right at Park Blvd
and turn Left at the traffic light (Park Blvd).
Cross over the overpass, and turn Left again on Mountain Blvd. At the 2nd traffic light turn Right onto Snake Rd.
After 0.2 miles, proceed straight ahead on curvy Shepherd Canyon Rd. for
approximately 2 miles (Snake turns abruptly left: don’t follow it).
Turn Right at Skyline Drive.
After about 0.3 miles, turn Left into the parking lot at the Skyline Gate Parking lot, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA.
Transportation: If you need a ride call the AV office several days ahead or invite a friend to bring you and join us.
