Tour of Berkeley Food Network
Addressing Hunger and Nutrition Insecurity in Berkeley, Oakland and Albany

Berkeley Food Network (BFN) is a local food assistance organization that distributes food directly to neighbors in need and to 34 community service organizations in Berkeley, Albany, and Oakland. Through BFN’s direct food assistance programs and its network of partners, BFN supports more than 6,500 people a week with healthy groceries.

An Ashby Village’s Elder Action team member is inviting you to experience BFN on a behind-the-scenes tour of their Warehouse in West Berkeley on Wednesday, June 26 from 9:45am-10:30am. Perry Hall, Volunteer & Outreach Manager, will lead a 20-minute tour of the Warehouse. You will see BFN's food recovery volunteers sorting food recovered from our partners at Berkeley Bowl, get a peek at how volunteers prepare custom boxes of supplemental groceries for our most vulnerable community members in need, and learn about BFN’s innovative and community-centered approaches to ending hunger in Berkeley and Albany. After the tour, you're invited to enjoy a short presentation by Larry Kass, Resource Conservation Outreach/Materials Management Specialist at Environmental Science Associates, about how you can produce worm compost directly in the soil of your houseplants! Larry will demonstrate the process on one of BFN's houseplants, then you can take a starter kit of worms and instructions home with you.

There is only space for 12 Ashby Village members/volunteers on this tour due to BFN activities that take place in the warehouse.

Contact Lynn Richards at LRW7732@pacbell.net to sign up for the waitlist and for more information.
