Navigating Today’s Healthcare System: A 5-Part Series With Tips, Strategies and Important Information to Guide Older Adults

Part 1: The State of Geriatric Healthcare
Dr. Sophia Chen, Geriatrician and Ashby Village Board Member presenting.

• Learn More About the Challenges Older Adults Face in Obtaining Appropriate Healthcare

• What Promising Programs Are in the Pipeline?

• What Tests, Exams, Etc Should Be Part of Older Adults Annual Physicals?

• Learn About Ashby Village’s New Guide Book With Tips on How to Have a Successful Visit With Your Physician

Sophia began her healthcare journey with an MPH at UCLA. There she pursued a Community Health Focus and became interested in working with older adults. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Kaiser Santa Clara and her Geriatrics Fellowship at Stanford University. In her many years of practice since then, she has learned that there is more to good health than medicalized services. She works in the community at various nursing facilities and visits patients in their homes, which continuously informs her search for an improved way to provide well integrated healthcare services. Her specific area of interest is in dementia and she is currently finishing an internal study with Kaiser about racial and ethnic differences in dementia diagnose and management.
