When: Tuesday May 13 11AM for about 2 hours (or less) Bag lunch after - optional
Where: Redwood Regional Park, West Ridge Trail, Skyline Gate, 8490 Skyline Blvd., Oakland
Open to: All
Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible
Description: This is a favorite with our walkers and got rained out in March! With out and back trails, we usually go an hour out and an hour back - probably 2 ish miles, depending upon speed. Some may go farther than others, as we all have our walk pace and distance abilities. If we have walk leaders, we may be able to offer more challenging options.
The West Ridge Trail is a wide dirt road which gently undulates through tall Monterey pines, redwoods, oaks and bay trees. Beautiful panoramic views can be seen occasionally.
Where to meet: We will meet in the parking lot at Skyline Gate, . Redwood Regional Park, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA. If it is full, you can park along the residential streets.
There is an accessible toilet in the parking lot.
Transportation: Need a ride? Members can request a ride from Ashby Village for a volunteer driver who can join us. You may know someone from your neighborhood group, with whom you might carpool. Or, have a family member or other guest bring you, and join you on the walk. Members can also see who is registered for the walk (you must be logged into the website) and may find a ride that way, or through a posting on the new AV bulletin Board.
What to bring: Good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable
weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but always a good
idea for help with balance and to propel you along the way. Bring a bag lunch or snack for afterwards, if you like.
How to get there:
Drive south on Hwy 13 (toward Hayward). Exit Right at Park Blvd
and turn Left at the traffic light (Park Blvd).
Cross over the overpass, and turn Left again on Mountain Blvd. At the 2nd traffic light turn Right onto Snake Rd.
After 0.2 miles, proceed straight ahead on curvy Shepherd Canyon Rd. for
approximately 2 miles (Snake turns abruptly left: don’t follow it).
Turn Right at Skyline Drive.
After about 0.3 miles, turn Left into the parking lot at the Skyline Gate Parking lot, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA.
