Science and Ideas: Covid-19: An Update
Presenter: Dr. John Swartzberg, MD, Professor Emeritus, UC Berkeley
We have now completed five years of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been an unprecedented time for all of us. In this presentation, Dr. Swartzberg will address some of the nuts and bolts about this pandemic with a focus on what we as individuals can do to navigate our lives while mitigating the risk for infection and serious disease. Dr. Swartzberg will address the state of the pandemic, the current circulating variants and sub-variants, diagnostic tests, treatments and prevention (with an emphasis on vaccines). He will save time for questions, and they are welcomed.
Dr. Swartzberg was born and raised in the East Bay, and Cal is his undergraduate alma mater. He practiced internal medicine and infectious diseases in Berkeley until 2001. He has spent many years teaching infectious diseases at UCSF and UC Berkeley and has been a professor at UCB's School of Public Health since the '90s. He teaches several classes in the School of Public Health and is the editor of the UC Berkeley Wellness Letter.
