Description: Discover this 1.8-mile loop trail near Albany. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 32 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, fishing, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas. A wide dirt trail (fire road) explores the bulb-shaped point that juts out into San Francisco Bay. Many smaller trails branch off leading to the best views of the bay and the quirky artwork.
The Albany Bulb is a former construction debris landfill on San Francisco Bay where people have been making informal outdoor sculptures and paintings for decades. It's home to 150 species of birds, huge trees, wildflowers, amazing views, and lots of walking trails.
Fun fact: In 2018, approx. 800 feet of new trail was added to the Bay Trail at Albany Bulb. The one mile connector completed in 2020 closes one of the critical gaps of the 500 mile SF Bay Trail. You can now enjoy the 10 mile trail from Berkeley, Albany to Richmond and soak in views.
