The Events Team Presents:
Friday Afternoon at the Movies
Monthly Film Discussion Series

A Feature Film
Discussion of
Hidden Figures
(2 hours, 07 mins, 2016, available for rent on Amazon Prime Video)

Please join us for our discussion of the film, Hidden Figures. You will need to see the film first on your own and then we will all get together via Zoom to discuss our reactions. Similar to a book club, our monthly discussions are dynamic, as we share our opinions and insights.

The Academy Award-nominated film stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, Kirsten Dunst, and Kevin Costner.

About the film: Hidden Figures is a powerful biographical drama about three brilliant African American women mathematicians at NASAKatherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson–who face racism, segregation and discrimination as they serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1962. This was a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

As one reviewer from Rotten Tomatoes says,
Through strong performances,
sensitive direction and the strength of its source material, Hidden Figures transcends cliché to become a genuinely moving, inspirational tale of perseverance, strength and love.
