Please join us for our very special film discussion on Friday, October 21st where we will discuss both the documentary and the feature film about Harvey Milk. You will need to see the films first on your own and then we will all get together via Zoom to discuss our reactions.
About the feature film: Based on the inspiring true story of the first openly gay man elected to major public office, the film Milk follows Harvey Milk’s powerful journey to inspire hope for equal rights during one of the least tolerant times in our nation’s history.
Sean Penn gives a brilliant and heartfelt performance as Milk, along with a stunning all-star cast, including Josh Brolin as Dan White, Emile Hirsh, Diego Luna and James Franco. Directed by Gus Van Sant.
About the Oscar-winning documentary: The Times of Harvey Milk “ One of the first feature documentaries to address gay life in America, is a work of advocacy itself, bringing Milk’s message of hope and equality to a wider audience. It is an exhilarating trove of original documentary material and archival footage as much a vivid portrait of a time and place (San Francisco’s historic Castro District in the seventies) as a testament to the legacy of a political visionary.” Robert Epstein.
Do you have any feature films to recommend for our monthly series, which are either on Netflix or Amazon? The Events Planning Team welcomes your ideas and suggestions! Please get in touch with Arlene Reiff at arlenereiff@gmail.com
