Accessibility:
Blake Garden is built in the Kensington hills. There are steep slopes throughout the garden, however,
parts
of the garden can be accessed by rough terrain wheelchair or walker.
Description:
Blake Garden is an 11-acre Italianate-design botanic public garden which is used as a laboratory for the landscape and architecture department at UC Berkeley.
The Garden has nearly 1500 plant species, over 50 bird species, as well as spectacular views of the Bay.
There are many easy paths throughout the gardens with glorious flower beds, redwood trees, ponds, and places to sit and enjoy. There is the option to stroll quickly to burn some calories, or just stroll and chat with new friends.
Well behaved pets on leash are welcomed!
Restroom are located at the Greenhouse.
Plant and bird lists are available at the greenhouse garden office.
Where to Meet and Directions
We will meet in the car park area at 70 Rincon Road, Kensington.

Since we live in various areas - Best to set and follow your navigation to 70 Rincon Rd., Kensington! Please allow time to get there so we can meet up at 1:00 PM!
The following directions might help depending upon where you are!
For those who know the Marin Circle:
From the Marin Circle, take Arlington Road going North 1.9 miles to Rincon Road. The Garden is on your left.
Or from a southern perspective:
From San Pablo Ave heading north, turn right at Moeser -Continue on Moeser up the hill to the Arlington, turn right (south) to Rincon Road. Park in Blake Gardens parking lot.
What to bring
:
Good walking shoes, layered clothing for variable weather, water, hat for sun protection, camera. Walking poles are always a good option for stability on the slopes.
Transportation:
Members can request a volunteer ride from the Ashby Village office- 510-204-9200. Or have a guest bring you and join you on the walk. You may also contact Jeanette, who can see if any of our walk forum members are going.

Other sections of the garden include: the Mediterranean Garden on the western side of the house, which highlights plants from the world’s Mediterranean climates; the Cottage Garden, where roses, vegetables, and herbs mingle with flowers for cutting; the Square Garden where Magnolias and low water perennials surround a square pool, and the Event Lawn, used for University functions as well as by picnicking visitors. The ‘Create with Nature Zone’ is a space for people of all ages to experiment and build using materials collected in the garden.
