Walk in the Redwoods - Bayview and Big Trees Trail options
Rain the day of or before cancels!

Description:
We did this in June - it was cold and a bit damp from low clouds and tree drips. Hoping for a longer (3 mi) but shady walk on the Bayview trail which has little elevation change, but lots of tree roots in places. This will be an out and back with the ability to turn around at any point. There are no restrooms at the trailhead or along this trail.

Option for more energetic walkers: Some may prefer Big Trees Trail with elevation changes as it drops to the valley floor, passes the horse arena, and meets up with the Bayview trail. There are restrooms on this trail. It is a longer option - 3 miles and a full 2 hours. Poles are a must for this option.

Depending upon walk leaders availability, we will discuss options before we set out.

Where to meet: We will meet at Sequoia/Bayview Trailhead on Skyline Boulevard approximately 1/2 mile from Joaquin Miller Blvd.   10800 Skyline Blvd. Oakland is the navigation setting. Allow time to park on the road.

What to bring: Dress  for variable weather conditions. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, and hiking poles. Poles can be helpful for balance and to maneuver on any uneven segments on the trails and are especially needed for Big Trees option. Bring your cell phone if you have one!

Directions:
From Rockridge BART, get on Hwy 24 going East. Take the Hwy 13 exit going south. Take the Joaquin Miller exit and turn Left on Joaquin Miller Road.  Turn left at the junction with Skyline Drive (Left arrow at traffic light). After about a half mile see the Joaquin Miller Trailhead on the left. Park along the road on the left side.10800 Skyline for your nav system.

Transportation: Members can request an AV volunteer service for a ride and the volunteer can join you. You may also have a guest drive you and join you.
