         LAFAYETTE RESERVOIR- SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

Description:
How about something new to discover? Something for all levels of ability. Lafayette Reservoir Loop – just under 3 miles, a paved loop with little elevation change, is considered an "easy" route near Lafayette, Ca. It take a little more than an hour to complete – unless one stops a lot to look at flowers and birds - which we always do!
Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash - not allowed in water or boats.
The Rim Trail (unpaved, 4.7 miles) takes longer with valley oak, black oak, Pacific madrone and California bay laurel trees. Smaller spur trails connect the two main trails, with coyote brush, blackberry, coffee berry and poison oak cropping up. Some may want this, but as this is our easier Monday walk most will opt for the paved rim trail which loops around the reservoir..
We will see if we have enough walk leaders to split up into 2 groups.

$6 entrance fee – discount for seniors and disabled.
Note the 10:30 AM start time to give folks more time to get there and parked. Bring a snack for a walkable lunch or we can sit at picnic tables afterwards.

There are paddle boats to rent if anyone wants to make a longer day of it.

What to bring: Good shoes for walking, water, sunscreen, layered clothing for variable weather, walking poles are encouraged  for stability and balance. Snack lunch to enjoy as we walk or at picnic tables afterward.

Directions and Where to Meet: Set your navigation to 3849 Mt. Diablo Blvd. Lafayette. Please allow time to get there and park, so we can start on time.
Take Rte. 24 east towards Walnut Creek. Take Exit 11 for Acalanes Rd./ Mt. Diablo Blvd.and follow signs for Mt. Diablo Blvd. Continue on Mt. Diablo Blvd. for about 3/4 mile. You'll  see the signs for Lafayette Reservoir on your right. Drive up the hill to the parking area. Turn left as you enter and choose one of the "Hourly Parking" spaces. You will need to pay for parking at one of the parking kiosks. (Hint: note your stall number - you'll need to input it at the parking kiosk. They check!)
We will all meet at the bottom of the flagpole at the wooden booth in the center of the parking area. You can't miss it. After gazing at the reservoir, we'll proceed to the paved 2.7 mile Lakeside Nature Trail. There are toilets - and picnic tables - at both ends and halfway through the walk.

There is a $6 fee to park - ask for the senior discount, as appropriate.

Transportation: Members who need a ride can contact the AV office for a volunteer (please give advance notice) or have a friend or family member bring you and be your guest.
