Description: We’ll take the wide, nearly level trail that follows Abrigo Valley through riparian and oak woodland. We will walk for a mile and 1/2 and turn around. A challenging option for North Bay views is to continue up to Crest Trail and down Mott peak back to Abrigo, if we have walk leaders to accompany walkers and accommodate various levels of distance and walking pace. Before we start out, we will discuss the options and plan accordingly. Where to Meet: Bear Valley Staging Area, 1611 Bear Creek Road, Lafayette. After passing the park kiosk, turn left into the parking area. We will meet there, where there are accessible toilets. Do not go to the Releiz Valley Staging area! What to bring: Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, hat, snacks. Hiking poles are a good idea for balance and stability. Bring your cell phone if you have one! Directions: FROM NORTH BERKELEY - NOTE: Apparently Wildcat Canyon Road is CLOSED for a while - so everyone should probably just get to Hwy 24 east (using Tunnel Road might be a good option to get to Hwy 24) and follow the directions below or take I-80 East and take San Pablo Dam Road to Bear Creek Road. Left on Bear Creek Road, on to the park entrance. FROM ROCKRIDGE BART, Take Hwy 24 east to Orinda exit. Turn L onto Camino Pablo Road. Go 2+ miles till you come to Bear Creek Road and Turn R. Follow this 4.4 miles to Briones Valley Road. The Bear Valley Staging area of the Briones Regional Park is at 1611 Bear Creek Road, Lafayette. Turn right here and drive in until you come to the park Kiosk. Turn left into the Parking lot. This should take about 25 minutes.
